Current Projects
|
- Establish a Reef Research Extension Facility at Badoc Bay, Ilocos Norte, Philippines
in conjunction with the Mariano Marcos State University of Ilocos Norte. This project includes
the deployment of 1,000 pieces of Eco-Coral™ in the regenerating Badoc Island reef to facilitate
the expansion of the reef and also to study growth rates and colonisation of the Eco-Coral™ units.
The RREF will have it's own research facility on the beach with accommodation for 15 persons so that
local and overseas researchers may stay and conduct research by recovering Eco-Coral™ units from the reef
and studying them in the laboratory facility. The units are then returned to the reef. This will be the
first time that growth of reef organisms will be able to be studied under laboratory conditions without
harming the reef organisms.
- Expanding the existing reef nursery at Capones Island, Zambales, Philippines with an additional
1,000 units of Eco-Coral together with a research vessel. The reef at the island is very diverse and
we are working with the Local Government to have it declared a Marine Protected Area.
This project and the Badoc Island project (above) are to be funded by corporate sponsors.
- Developing plans for a 250,000 unit Eco-Coral Nursery in Tubutaha reef as part of the 2008 International
Year of the Reef.
